We regularly have newsworthy and interesting content that we wish to get attention to in the press, blogosphere and online communities. One way we do this is to contact authors, bloggers and journalists that will be interested in our news, in hope they will cover it.
We call this a 'News Tip'. Alternatively we may also contact people within our niche simply to build strong relationships with the press, bloggers and influencers in a given niche. For example, we may have an interesting and detailed feature article such as “How To
Build Your Own Solar Power Generator”. In this stock footage ultimate review, we would want to contact people who write about the environment, DIY projects, solar energy and general 'How To' articles. By contacting these people some of them will end up discussing our article in blogs, websites and newspapers that they write for. This will bring us valuable exposure In the media and help grow our audience and brand. We need to find the contact information of such people so that we can send them information on something we have that will interest them.
Find Websites And Authors To Contact...
The Criteria You will need to build a database of contacts who will be very receptive to receiving a news tip from us on a certain subject. You will be given the subject up front – for example you might be asked to find contacts who will be interested in 'Shoe Fashion'. To do this you will need to find suitable online publications that would cover the subject. You need to be able to gauge if the website/contact would cover the topic..
The rules on the next page will help you...
THE RULES...
The site must regularly discuss the topic in question...
The site must have published a new article or blog post in the last 14 days...
The site must have contact information to contact authors...
The site must not be an article directory, social bookmarking site or similar...
The articles on the site must usually link out to other websites...
The site should be posting original articles that aren't copied from other sources.. You should ensure the sites you list in your database match these criteria. Generally we are looking for blogs, bloggers, online magazines and online newspapers.
NOTE: Corporate and Company Sites... Most websites build around or focusing on selling their own products are often very picky about linking to another website, even if they regularly publish articles or have their own blog. Some companies may do it, just be aware that most don't out of self-interest.
There are a few methods to finding sites that discuss the subject you are looking for...
Google Search... Carry out the following searches, replacing 'keyword' with your chosen subject.
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=keyword+blog
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=keyword+site
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=keyword+news
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=inurl:blog+keyword
Use Blog Directory...
Search http://www.blogcatalog.com/ for relevant
stock footage ultimate review...
Search http://alltop.com/ within their many categories...
Google Blog Search... Use 'Google Blog Search' to find sites discussing your subject by using the following search, replacing 'keyword' with your subject...
https://www.google.com/search?q=intitle:"keyword"&tbm=blg
Check Blogroll Of Sites Already Found... If you have already found sites that match the criteria, or you already have sites in your database, then check the links in their blogroll if they have one. Very often they link to similar sites that cover the same topics.
When a site is identified from your search that matches your topic and it meets all your criteria, you then need to find the correct contact form / email to reach the authors on the site.
Do not just go for the first
icoach pro review you see! Check that you have found the best form or email address to use, to contact the author(s) of the site with your news tip. Whenever using the form specified on the website to contact the author, make sure you are using the right form. If the form has multiple options, double check that you are using the right options. Quite often you will need to spend some time searching for the right contact details, and in some cases will need to find the contact details of specific authors to contact.
Use the tips on the next page to help you along...
Contacting an author / blogger journalist directly is more personal and less competitive, so you'll often get a better response.
Try then to find the Individual Contact Information for the author you're attempting to contact. If you can find the direct contact details of the author / blogger / journalist who write for the same site, use it.
You'll often find a better response contacting them directly, than if you sent it to the lead editor, or through the main web form. This is because these get flooded with submissions and has more 'gatekeepers' to get through.
It is best to use the direct contact information provided on the site the author / blogger / journalist is writing for, but failing that, you can search the writer's name in Google to find more about them.
This search may turn up a personal website with direct contact information, or another website they write for, which has direct contact information.
Search what they have written about before, to ensure they actually discuss your subject on a regular basis. Some sites have authors specialize in certain areas / niches / topics / subjects so ensure you contact the right one.
Make sure the site doesn't prohibit emailing in news, story or article tips.
You can get multiple contacts from a single website, so long as they meet the criteria.
Extra Site Search Contact Methods...
Search Google for: domain.com contact OR email
Use a WHOIS service to find contact email: icoach pro review
Quite often a site will have a 'News Tips' contact form... you can use this in place of a personal contact if you can't find one.
We are looking for email addresses, contact forms and phone numbers, not physical offline addresses.
Incorrect Contacts...
Incorrect Contacts Would Include: General Support, Sales, Webmaster, Tech Team, General Contact Page With Multiple Contacts (You must be specific!)
Your final contact report database should be recorded in an Excel Spreadsheet (or
similar) with the following columns.
Website (Contact's Domain)
Contact Information (Email / Web Form / Phone Number)
Important Notes (Any other relevant information) The important notes are there in case there are specific instructions or restrictions that you have discovered for the contact information. For example “in the form, choose 'DAVE', from the drop down menu”... or... “do not send information of a political nature”... Once you have your contact list, you have a direct way to increase the traffic to your site / content. The more you work with a single contact, the stronger the relationship, and the more opportunities may open up to you.
All The Best!
