Let me start with what this book is not, so that ifyou’re looking for any ofthese, you can stop reading this book right now.
First ofall, this book is NOT about ADHD/ADD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder/Attention Deficit Disorder). Ifyou have or suspect you may have ADHD or ADD, seek help from an appropriately qualified professional.
Ifyou are struggling with concentration, attention, memory and/or any other cognitive problems because you have or suspect you may have a physical or mental health problem, seek help from your healthcare provider. You may still benefit from advice given in this book, once you’ve addressed the
underlying problem, but please deal with your conjuregram review appropriately.
This book does not deal with nootropics, ‘brain stimulation devices,’ or any other ‘cognitive enhancers.’ It does not cover anything that has been disproved by science or has ‘inconclusive evidence’ behind it.

I included a chapter on improving your motivation, but you need to have at least some motivation in the first place. Ifyour main problem is lack ofmotivation to do your job, study, or attend to any other commitments/duties you have in life, you may benefit from the advice in this book. However, it may not be enough, or what you are in fact looking for. Get your motivation sorted first and foremost, and
you can then return to this book and check ifyou still need advice on focusing.
This book is about focus as mental exercise: Your ability to direct your attention, concentrate, and sustain your mental efforts on whatever you’re working (studying, reading, writing, etc.) at the time. This is not about finding focus, purpose, mission, passion, etc., in life, or finding focus for your business, career, creative endeavours, etc. There are many books that deal with those topics, but this is not the one. Advice you find in this book is not rocket science, but it is backed by science (cognitive neuroscience, educational theory, and empirical or scientific evidence) and implementing it will help you become a ‘rocket scientist’ (ifthat’s what’s you’re working toward). It is my personal system built on evidence-based practices and years ofexperience. I am sharing all this with you in the hopes that you can benefit from my experience, too. However, be mindful that we are all individuals and not everything will work for everyone; what’s worked for me may not work for you. But the bottom line is: even the best advice in the world will not do anything for you ifyou don’t put it into practice.
Ifyou’re an avid reader ofself-help books and articles, and experienced student or a productivity fan, you may find nothing new here. Yes, to some extent this book is a re-hash ofwell-known stuff, but it is a well-organised rehash, and—unlike most other books ofthis type—easily adaptable to your personal, specific situation. I also packed it with lots ofpractical steps and examples on how to

This book has been organised in a way that follows so called ‘logical sequence ofevents;’ that is, starting from the beginning and gradually working through the next steps. Why? Because we need to learn to crawl first before we attempt to walk, before we can run. Right? Right. And this book acknowledges there is a natural sequence ofsteps. But... On the other hand, ifyou’re not a beginner, you won't need to start from crawling. Because ifyour
legs were in a plaster cast for a long time or ifyou've just got your first-ever high heels, you will have different ‘learn-to-walk’ needs. Right? Right. That’s why I have included The Focus Roadmap right at the beginning ofthe book: so that you can identify where you are now, look up where you want to go, and then find what steps you need to follow to quickly get to your goals. Makes sense?
I hope so. You can read this book from cover to cover in the order it is presented, or use the Roadmap and jump to the chapters that are ofinterest to you at this time. Either way, you will get specific advice on developing and maintaining a laser-sharp focus throughout your life. But we are all different and we struggle to focus because ofdifferent problems. Your struggles will not only differ from mine, but also change as you go though life, or even be different in different areas oflife at the same time. This is why I designed this book to guide you through your own situation or challenges. In order to address your specific problems, you need to know what’s working and what’s not. Ifyou
already know—just skip to the parts or chapters ofthe book that may be ofuse to you. Ifyou don’t know or would like to have a better understanding, I urge you to go to Chapter 2 and do the exercises included there. These tasks will help you identify your specific struggles. Once you’ve got clarity around that, look at the Roadmap to see where you can find useful info on how to address your specific problems. And as you improve your focus and then work on maintaining it, life may throw you new challenges and you may find yourselfstruggling again, maybe even with different things. Use the
