If
you have a lot of content, this is an issue to fix. If you don’t, then this is
something to consider moving forward. Once upon a time, I wrote blog posts
without regard to what action the visitor would take when they arrived. I just
wanted ad revenue. Now that I understand income pathways better, my new goal is
if I’m not selling directly within the post that a visitor lands on, my primary
goal is to get them to a piece of content w/ potential to convert. You can do
the same. Just keep this in syndranker review .
Wherever
they land on your blog, make double sure you are encouraging them to click on a
post that A) they’d be interested in and B) they can buy something on Even if
you have to structure it in a way where they click on post A, which leads them
to post B, which leads them to Tutorial A, then that works! As long as the path
leads to monetized content AND you’re doing a good job of selling there, you
will make more sales than you were before.
The
key here is getting more qualified eyeballs on what you have to offer. If you
don’t show your visitors where to go, they will lose interest and leave. You
can capture emails as part of this strategy, but it is NOT required to make
money with income pathways. It just enhances your earnings. Email marketing is
a longer term strategy that will work best when you have your income pathways
under control.
To
give you an idea of what’s possible- I was making $9,000 per month from utilizing
income pathways before I ever started taking my email list seriously! The thing
about income pathways is that they can lead to virtually anything – a serious
product like a blogging course or something simple like the dry shampoo you
keep in your gym bag.
Here
is a simple income pathway illustration: This is when you take a bunch of posts
related to a single topic and essentially “point” them toward a related
monetized post. Example #1: Pointing three posts about making saving money to a
post all about your favorite online coupon printer (something I do!) Example
#2: Pointing three coffee drink recipes to a post all about the syndranker review you use every morning.
Remember:
Be helpful & honest & really think through any descriptions you use on
social media! (and don’t forget your meta descriptions – where they appear,
they can influence clickability) At least temporarily. You can only worry about
so many things at once when you are not trying to work around the clock. All
the subscribers in the world will just stress you out if you don’t have a plan
for them. I think I’m the only blogger giving this advice, but just hear me
out.
Instead
of subscriber counts, I like to focus on getting the RIGHT subscribers. If you
stop worrying about getting tons of subscribers and focus on getting
subscribers who buy something from you, you will A) worry less and B) see
higher conversion rates which is motivating! This goes back to your income
pathways, i.e. having a PLAN.
It's
a little known fact but I only have 6,000 people on my mailing list as of today
yet I make over $110,000 per year from my blog. I can do this because almost
every person on my list is a hot lead. Meaning, they are there because they are
super interested in one of the monetized topics on my blog. I don't have a
"general" list. You don’t have to have one either.
You
can make several lists (or tagged subsets of your overall list, depending on
your email service provider) according to your income pathways for more revenue
for less work. In February 2017, I guest posted on Persuasion Nation where I
wrote all about a way to find your readers BEFORE they even know they need you.
This is what I mean about finding the right subscribers.
A
great use of your time is focusing on finding the subscribers who LOVE what you
have to say because it’s like you read their mind and placed a solution at
their feet. Find them the one step ahead in their journey to your syndranker review.
Think of how you can serve your readers in deep ways that most bloggers dare not
go, and you will be on your way to finding the RIGHT subscribers who want your
solutions.
It
surely beats getting hundreds of general subscribers in order to find the few
who actually want what you’re selling, literally and figuratively. Sort of
related to strategy #5….instead of trying to get more visitors, try to convert
more visitors into buyers. It’s not only less work, it’s easier to scale. There
are several ways you can up conversions: 1. Get readers onto your mailing list
with a related lead magnet so you can follow up.
Ideally,
this lead magnet will be something that helps them accomplish the goal you
want. 2. Once you start sending emails, play around with titles to continuously
improve open rates. Just like it doesn’t matter if you are the best salesman if
nobody clicks on your posts, it doesn’t matter if you write the best sales
email if nobody opens it! 3. Work on being more persuasive in your writing.
Tiny
tweaks to the words you use and the way you present a solution can make a big
difference in overall conversion rates. 4. Incorporate sales triggers into your
blog posts. I highly recommend you read the book Influence: The Psychology of
Persuasion by Robert Cialdini. It’s mind-blowing! By incorporating some of his
concepts, I drastically increased my conversion rates overnight. 5. Play around
with scarcity and urgency.
If
some of your readers are indecisive, this can make a big difference. This works
within blog posts and emails. This doesn’t have to feel sleazy if you approach
it the right way. For this you will need to use my income tracking spreadsheet
or one of your own. If you use a spreadsheet to track income streams down to
the individual payee, your monthly report will tell you a story.
Does
something make you a decent amount of money with relatively little effort on
your part? Focus on that for a month to see if you can scale it up. Would you
really like to see one of those streams blow up? Focus on that for a month!
After a month of focus you will either A) blow up your results or B) realize
further work on that income stream is not worth your time.
Knowing
which one of these is the case will work wonders for your future income and
give you clarity on what you should not be worrying about. Knowing what doesn't
work is JUST as valuable as knowing what does. If you do this exercise a few
months in a row, you will be better prepared each month with more intel to make
every consecutive decision better than the last! I use LeadBoxes from LeadPages
to collect emails addresses from people who are 100% interested in what I have
to say.
You
may have heard that Google is cracking down on pop ups these days. LeadBoxes
are a smart way around that. You can set them up to where someone reads your
content and then has to take action and click on a link like this to activate a
popup. These LeadBoxes have an amazing conversion rate because everyone who
clicks on them is highly motivated to subscribe to your mailing list! To
encourage visitors to sign up, you can offer a lead magnet.
This
can be as simple as a promise to email them weekly tips related to the problem
you’re helping them with OR it can even be a PDF or email version of the blog
post they’re reading (especially helpful if they’re on mobile and don’t have
time to read it all the way through!) Just promise that you will email them a
copy & then follow up once they have time to read it. You can actually say
that to encourage them to subscribe! i.e
“click
here to have this emailed to you…” Here’s an example post of all this in action!
When I started doing this (capturing hot leads that had to intentionally click
a link to subscribe) and then followed up to check in on them, I found that
they started THANKING ME for following up! It was the craziest thing! I’ve
found that being straight up with my readers about my intentions is the best
way to go.
